OUR STORY

The Craft Schack was created from a very personal desire to give my adult stepdaughter a sense of purpose and belonging.

After nearly 25 years as a massage therapist, my life changed when I married my husband and became a caregiver to his daughter, Olivia.

Olivia is an adult who lives with significant challenges that make independent living and traditional employment difficult. She is doing remarkably well with treatment and support, but everyday things that many of us take for granted can require assistance.

As she got older, she became increasingly aware that many of the friends she grew up with were moving forward with careers, relationships and independent lives. I wanted her to have something that felt like adulthood—something that gave her structure, responsibility, social connection and, most importantly, purpose.

Olivia has always loved arts and crafts. So we built The Craft Schack.

Now she can “come to work”.

She can help customers. She can participate in projects. She can create. She can interact with people in our community, at her own pace. She has a place where people know her and where she has something meaningful to contribute.

What I didn’t expect was how much The Craft Schack would give back to both of us.

I created a business to give Olivia a purpose, and in the process, I found a new purpose of my own.
